Explaining Green Screen.

Explaining green screen:

Green-Screen is used predominantly in film but can also be used in other aspects of media such as photography.

Editing has been as easier as ever with thanks to green-screen, the use of effects would be simplified, in the past green-screens were expensive to obtain and green screens weren’t at all common but in the 21st century, the use of green-screens are as common as finding a penny on the streets of London but as editing software is only getting more developed green-screen is more common and more diverse ways have been used to create effects.

Green Screen is used to create an artificial background setting to alter the background of your chosen photo or film. Using green-screen the possibilities are endless; anything imaginable could be artificially manufactured onto the green-screen to alter the theme of your chosen video (Green Screens aren’t the only colour you could use, there is also a blue screen which has the same effect).

Usually there has to be software, which is suitable and can support the editing of the green screen, for example; After Effects and Premiere are suitable.

Green and Blue Screen Effects:

Green or blue screen filming is usually used to change and alter the background of a digital image to re-create an image or moving sequence. This is usually used in film but pictures can also be an option, here’s an example;

These are two of many effects green-screen could be used for. By using these two unique coloured backdrops and using computer software, which will create the perfect scene anything is possible, to manipulate the green or blue colour and to re-create the backdrop to any background of your desire, anything is possible with green or blue screen. Green and Blue Screen create an effect, which may cost a lot of money to make by putting a subject in a location which is artificial and may be impossible to capture on film.

Removing elements:

The most common use for a green or blue screen is to remove the background by creating a transparent background and replacing the green or blue for another background or colour such as;

What I’ve done here is taken the original video clip and made the green-screen a completely different colour and added a white background with fictional cartoon characters using tools on After Effects. With the good and the correct lighting editing whilst using green and blue screen are effective and could be used effectively.
