Task 1

Media as a whole:

There is a range of sectors surrounding in and around the topic of media, and as time goes on careers in media will only expand. Media has been the industry which the general population of people in the UK aspire to work for, with companies such as the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5 being the most common television shows in the UK there are so much more which I haven’t mentioned which people aspire to work for. The jobs in media are endless, from;

·      Radio

·      Internet

·      Photography

·      Gaming and animation

·      Computer graphics

·      Social media

·      Journalism

·      Television and film

These are just a few of the examples of sectors of jobs in the media. There are so much more to chose from and as media is a new enterprise over the years it will only get bigger and better.

Two job roles in media I would consider myself to be interested in are a director and also doubling as a cinematographer, which insists on creating films to hopefully be shown in cinemas across the globe. Being a director I feel is a creative and practical job and I feel as though with the right team working in this profession will be effective, doubling as a cinematographer you would possess qualities which most directors hire people to do, as a cinematographer by creating a consistent look for shots which would be ideal for your film I feel as though that will be effective.

       A director has a very important job, as a director, you would be required to be in tune with everything around you and you will be expected to be in control of your team and the vision for the film you’re shooting. A director should naturally have a sharp eye and know exactly what they want from his team being camera crew, dop’s, actors, actresses, and anything else, which may relate to the shoot and exactly how he/she would want it.

       . The director of photography has quite a similar job to the director, the director of photography (DOP) would be expected to have a close relationship with the director and be expected to provide a range of photos and locations that would be effective and will juxtapose with the directors vision.  The director of photography would be expected to be naturally creative and have a sharp eye for the scenes, which would be most effective in the film being created.

Another job role which I aspire to be once I finish university would be a Media Teacher, by being a media teacher I feel as though not only am I doing theory as well as practical media work equally I will be passing my knowledge onto the younger generation who aspire to be film makers or journalists, well to be frank anyone who dreams of having a career in media.

Here is a job description of a cinematographer:

The word cinematographer has many meanings but the original root meaning of cinematographer is bringing a story to visually to life. A cinematographers job is to work closely with the director capturing the perfect scenes, which will enchant the audience by making full use of every element being light, sound, shots, knowing the technical side to the cameras they’re using, how exposures work and having a artistic eye for getting the right shots. Also a cinematographer would usually know how to manage a budget and have to the skills to coordinate with the members of staff he/she is working with.

A director’s job is to be the creative mastermind in the films production, the director turns the hundreds of thousands maybe even millions of letters of the script into a masterpiece translating the script into art. A director must be able to visualize the end result of the film and must not allow the slightest mistake get past him/her. The director’s job would include the casting of the actors/actresses, the editing of the script, the shot composition, the shot selection and the editing of the film. Being a director is a job of high responsibility and requires high skill. The skills required for a director is to be artistically creative, a deep commitment and passion for the job and simultaneously double as a strong, confident leader.
